In this Video John Cincola use the bowling method to explain a serve – one he calls a ground stroke
When we are working on our serves we have 2 things going on that seem to be fighting with one another
- if you make a linier swing toward your target that gives you a sense of control because everything is in a nice strait line. We know and have learned that it is important to rotate and use our shoulders through out the serve. but using the shoulders can look like you are moving around too much, hard to time, that sort of thing.
- How can we find the best of both worlds? When you think about Bowling – our shoulders rotate but our arm stays linier (in a strait line).

So Right shoulder comes back and then comes forward but the arm is staying on the same path the whole time.
In your serve – let the shoulder drop back, let it rotate forward but keep the arm in line with where you want to hit it. That way you can use your shoulders to help speed the ball up.
Short and sweet 🙂 Hope this helps move your game to the next level.
