Three Phases of COVID-19 & Long-Haulers

  1. Viral Replication
  2. Cytokine Storm
  3. Viral Thrombosis
Covid 19 Science

You go through all 3 of these stages whether you get COVID-19 or if you have the COVID shot. Like a flu shot, if you take the COVID shot you go through the 3 phases in a much lesser degree than if you get the full-blown virus but their are still risks involved.

I felt drawn to share a little science lesson with you, today. When I recently learned this it answered a lot of questions for me.

The three phases of COVID-19 and a little explanation of each

  1. Viral Replication – When the virus is multiplying within you. (You may not know you are sick and likely you are contagious)
  2. Cytokine Storm – When your immune system is under attack. The current state of your health and/or risk factors will have a lot to do with the outcome.
  3. Viral Thrombosis – Blood disorders and blood clots are all part of the “normal” progression of this disease.
3 Phases of Covid 19: 1. Viral Replication, 2. Cytokine Storm, 3. Viral Thrombosis.

Not So Common Knowledge about the 3rd Phase of COVID-19

Viral Thrombosis – Early on, I did not know this is a normal progression of COVID-19. We have heard about blood clotting issues but I honestly thought it was a “side effect” of the COVID shot. Turns out it is a normal progression of the virus throughout the body.

I have friends who have had COVID-19 and landed in the hospital because they couldn’t breathe. It is common for these blood clots to travel to the lungs. Some individuals respond well to medical treatment, some not so much. Many survivors lose a large percentage of their smaller micro blood vessels in their lungs and have difficulty breathing and low energy even after COVID-19 is gone. Two of my friends ended up with heart complications after having survived COVID-19. One needed a stent put in for his heart the other had quadruple bypass surgery.

Recently I listened to a podcast episode where Dr. Hyman interviewed Dr. Li and the science they talked about is where I learned a lot of this information. (I will post a link to the podcast at the bottom of this article).

The “STORM” that happens inside your blood vessels

They explained the storm that happens inside blood vessels being much like this – The inside of your healthy blood vessels should be smooth. They likened it to the ice that has been smoothed out by a Zamboni. They are smooth so that your blood and nutrients can glide along within them. After COVID, they are rough – much like ice after a hockey game. It has been beaten to death and needs time, nutrients and rest to heal.

Avoiding blood clots

It is very important before you get hit with, or if you have gotten hit with, the 3rd phase of COVID to take something to thin your blood. My favorite vitamin that I have been recommending is Vitamin E – we have a good one at Powerline Health called Natural-E 400. It gives you 400 IU’s of Vitamin E with each softgel and has a high mg dose at 268mg.

Other options are an enteric-coated baby Asprin each day, or different herbs thin the blood. For example, Turmeric thins the blood as well as Omega 3 supplements. Fish oil thins the blood just enough to be therapeutic. Recently, I learned that even something as simple as Vitamin C can thin the blood.
If you feel Vitamins and herbs have a tendency to thin your blood too much, adding some Vitamin D and Vitamin K2 can help the structure of your blood cells to be healthier. We have a good option for this at Powerline Health as well called Vitamins A-D & K.

Long-Haulers – After COVID – A Path to Healing

Maybe Long-Haulers should be called “Phase 4” of COVID

Goji berries are rich in vitamins A and C, which naturally improve immunity and protect the body from illness. Studies have shown that goji berry juice and supplements may increase levels of immune cells, improve immune function response, and promote a general feeling of well-being in older individuals.

I have had close friends and family members that COVID took a major toll on them and slowed them down for a long time. I have had friends and customers ask me to do an article on this because they are afraid – they just can’t seem to get their energy back and want to get back to “life as usual”.
There are a wide range of symptoms from fatigue and body aches to difficulty breathing, racing heart, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and more. COVID-19 was originally viewed as a respiratory disease but we’ve now gained a new understanding of its impact on our blood vessels and how that affects the entire body.

Studies indicate that noni juice may improve joint health, increase physical endurance, increase immune activity, inhibit glycation of proteins, aid weight management, help maintain bone health in women, help maintain normal blood pressure, and improve gum health.

The good news is that the body really can heal itself. You just have to give yourself some time and patience. Some of the important things are to put super healthy foods in your path and avoid foods that cause inflammation. Go down the fresh and frozen fruit and vegetable aisles at your favorite grocery store and buy the things that sound good to you. Nuts are a good energy and nutrient-dense food to snack on or use for small meals. Supplements are good for you, as well. We have recently put together a liquid supplement of herbal superfoods you might like to try Anti-Oxi Power. It is packed with Antioxidant fruits and berries. Antioxidants go into the body and clean up your cells and give them the nutrients that your new cells need to improve energy, immunity and strength.

Mangosteen Extract
Mangosteen has been used to treat skin infections and diarrhea. Recent scientific studies suggest that mangosteen possesses strong antioxidant, anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, anti-microbial, and anti-malarial properties.

Give yourself time and bring relaxing practices into your life that decrease stress. It can take up to a year for your body to repair from the effects of COVID. Do the hard work of removing sweets and white flour foods along with more movement in your life and the rewards will be well worth it.

There are some recent studies that support intermittent fasting – just long enough to get some autophagy going in your body can be very beneficial. Autophagy is really interesting to me – it sets in when you have fasted between meals long enough that you are feeling hungry. During this hungry phase, your body does not have to worry about working on food, it can go to work on cleaning out old cells so that the healthy foods you do eat will replace the unhealthy cells. In some ways, we really are what we eat. It is not healthy to fast excessively or even every day but doing some fasting windows in your life 2 or 3 times a week can have some major benefits on your cells’ “cleaning house” abilities.

Like other berries, acai berries contain antioxidants and fiber. As a superfood, helping various health concerns, including arthritis, weight loss, high cholesterol and erectile dysfunction. Studies have found that consuming acai fruit boosted the production of human gamma delta T cells in cell cultures, which are an important part of the immune system.
